11/12/07 - Midwest Regional Mountain Bike Championships Decided at Iceman
The Wisconsin WORS series reigned supreme in 2007 taking first place in the MRC by a huge margin. Second place was an ever strong home team of Michigan. And the lowest step on the podium was a drag'em out fight to the last racer between Indiana's Dino series and the OMBC riders from Ohio. In the end, Ohio got the best of the Hoosier state. 19 riders from each state where sent to the Midwest Regional Championships held at the Iceman in Michigan. Read below to learn more about the series.
Final 2007 Rankings:
1. Wisconsin 47
2. Michigan 154
3. Ohio 254
4. Indiana 285
5. Kentucky only sent 1 rep.

“Midwest Regional Mountain Bike Championship adds a new state series to the regional competition”
Butler, OH-The Second Annual Midwest Regional Championship has been scheduled for November 10, 2007 at the 18th annual “XTERRA Iceman Cometh Challenge” event in Michigan.
The Midwest Regional Championship is a series to series competition with the division winners from each participating state series competing head to head using comparable iceman division categories as the standard for the competition.
Mountain Bike State Series division winners from Tailwind representing Michigan, DINO representing Indiana, KYMBA representing Kentucky, WORS representing Wisconsin/Illinois, and OMBC representing Ohio will receive discounted entry and qualify to compete in the sold out XTERRA Iceman event. New this year is the addition of the West Virginia (WVMBA) Series bringing total participation to six states.
“The Iceman, as the largest single day mountain bike event in North America, provides a great venue for this event and the November 10 date is well after the conclusion of all participating state series. Race organizer Steve Brown has generously offered discounted race passes to division winners in order to make the 2nd annual Midwest Regional Championship a reality”

Format and scoring for State Rankings:
Iceman Divisions will be used for scoring purposes.
Scoring for the Regional Championship will be centered on a lowest common denominator, lowest points win’s formula.
Lowest Denominator: The number of divisions that will be counted to rank each state series will be based on the state sending the fewest “finishing” representatives. This will allow a smaller series to compete on a level playing field with a larger series. A new rule change has been added this year will set the lowest minimum finishing number of representatives at 10 to insure that the competition is representative. If a state sends fewer than 10, they will be penalized 20 points for each missing representative.
DNF’s will not count and will not be scored in the rankings. Each first place finish will count as 1 point, second place 2 points, and third place 3 points and so on.
For Example, if the OMBC series sends 20 representatives which happens to be the least among the six participating states, and, and only 19 finish, the regional championship will be scored using 19 as the lowest common denominator.
The top 19 finishes, regardless of the number of finishing representatives, will be counted as points. Each state series will be ranked based on the lowest number of point’s wins formula. In the event of a tie in the rankings, times will be considered to rank each state.
Results:
Regional Championship Results will be tracked and posted by the Ohio Mountain Bike Championship Series at a new regional website: www.usmtb.org.
There will be a direct link available from the results page of the Iceman at www.iceman.com and from each respective state series.
Rules:
1. Race entry passes at $10 per racer will be awarded to division winners. OMBC will cover this cost for OMBC division winners. If a division winner does not plan to attend or cannot attend, they may pass on their entry to another racer.
Rule Change for 2007: Only one representative per iceman division will be counted in 2007. Each series must send a complete roster that includes only one racer per Iceman division. These are the only representatives that will be included for scoring purposes.
For Example: A second place finisher can stand in for a division winner. Any points they accumulate based on their finish will count towards their state series ranking and will also count as their individual regional ranking.
2. Since each state series divisions are not necessarily the same, it is allowed for racers to register and compete in any iceman division they choose provided that they do not enter a division that would be considered below the division they competed in throughout the regular race season.
For Example: an OMBC expert racer may choose to enter the pro division at the Midwest Regional Championship. However, that same OMBC expert racer will NOT be scored for the Championship if he/she competes in a sport division at the iceman.
3. Racers will be scored in the iceman division they enter for scoring purposes and only ONE per Iceman Division will qualify.
4. DNF’s will not be counted and do not help or hinder the state rankings. In the event that every racer in one of the state series results in a DNF or if no representatives are sent, that state will be ranked last and the common denominator will be determined by the next state series with the fewest number of finishers. This is intended to prevent a 0 result.
5. All other rules for the Iceman event apply for the Midwest Regional Championship.
6. In the event of a disagreement, a written appeal will need to be sent by email to NoLimit@mohican.net no later than 10 days following the event.
The 6 State Series Directors will have final say in any disagreement and a vote will be taken if necessary. A decision by the directors will be final.
7. The series directors reserve the right to make changes or updates, as necessary, to the Midwest Regional Championship. Suggestions can be sent by email to NoLimit@mohican.net
